Director of Digital Asset Compliance
Location / working model: United States | Remote or hybrid
About the Organisation
A regulated international financial-services organisation is expanding its digital-asset and payments capability. The business is developing new products that connect established financial systems with blockchain-based settlement, requiring a compliance framework that can support responsible commercial growth across several markets.
The Appointment
This is a senior builder appointment for a compliance leader who can translate regulatory expectations into practical product and operating controls. The Director of Digital Asset Compliance will shape the compliance model for new products, advise senior decision-makers and ensure that financial-crime, sanctions and customer-risk considerations are embedded before launch. The position combines strategic ownership with hands-on programme development.
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop and maintain the digital-asset compliance framework, including risk assessments, policies, controls and governance reporting.
Partner with Product, Legal, Operations and Technology teams to assess new propositions, distribution models and third-party relationships before launch.
Define proportionate controls across customer onboarding, enhanced due diligence, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and escalation management.
Oversee the selection, implementation and continuing effectiveness of specialist compliance and financial-crime tools.
Provide clear advice to executive leadership on regulatory change, emerging risk and the commercial implications of control decisions.
Support regulatory engagement, audits and assurance reviews, ensuring that evidence and management information are complete and credible.
Build effective working relationships with first-line teams and promote clear ownership of compliance requirements across the business.
Experience and Capability
-
Senior compliance, AML, financial-crime or regulatory-risk experience within digital assets, payments, banking or regulated fintech.
Practical knowledge of blockchain-related customer and transaction risks, alongside established fiat compliance controls.
Experience designing or materially improving a compliance programme during product or market expansion.
Confidence advising product teams and senior executives on complex regulatory questions in clear commercial language.
Strong governance, reporting and stakeholder-management capability, with experience supporting regulators, auditors or boards.
A collaborative and delivery-focused approach, with the judgement to distinguish essential controls from unnecessary process.
Leadership and Stakeholder Context
The appointment will work across Product, Legal, Risk, Operations, Technology and senior leadership. It may initially lead through influence rather than a large team, but it will be expected to set standards, build internal capability and provide visible ownership of the digital-asset compliance agenda.
