FINANCIAL CRIME STRATEGY LEAD
Translate emerging threats, regulatory obligations and operating data into a coherent financial-crime control strategy.
London or Amsterdam | Hybrid
Organisation overview
Our client is a regulated financial-technology organisation supporting international payments and digital settlement. Its growth across products and markets requires a more integrated approach to fraud, money laundering and sanctions risk. The business is appointing a senior specialist to connect policy, investigations, data and product design.
The appointment
The Financial Crime Strategy Lead will define how the organisation identifies, assesses and responds to financial-crime exposure. The remit extends beyond case management. It includes deciding which controls should exist, how their performance should be measured and where the operating model requires better data, technology or accountability.
The role is suited to a senior practitioner who can move from detailed analysis to clear priorities, then work across functions to turn those priorities into effective controls.
Key responsibilities
· Set and maintain the financial-crime roadmap across fraud, money laundering, sanctions and related misuse of the platform.
· Use control data, investigation findings and emerging typologies to determine where rules, thresholds and workflows need to change.
· Lead complex reviews, quantify exposure and convert findings into proportionate improvements to detection and prevention.
· Define requirements for monitoring and case-management capability in partnership with Product, Data and Technology.
· Establish meaningful measures of coverage, precision, customer impact and operational performance for senior reporting.
· Ensure that new products and market activity incorporate financial-crime considerations at the design stage rather than after launch.
Experience and capability
· Senior experience in financial-crime, fraud, AML, sanctions or transaction-monitoring strategy within payments, fintech, banking or digital assets.
· A record of assessing the performance of controls and using evidence to distinguish genuine risk from operational noise.
· Experience shaping monitoring capability or working closely with Product, Data and Technology on control design.
· Strong investigative and analytical skills, supported by an understanding of cross-border and digital-asset risk patterns.
· The ability to explain trade-offs clearly to control functions, product teams and senior decision-makers.
Leadership and stakeholder context
The Financial Crime Strategy Lead will operate across Compliance, Risk, Product, Operations, Data and Technology. The appointment is expected to influence investment and prioritisation, establish clear ownership for control outcomes and give executive stakeholders an intelligible view of financial-crime exposure and programme effectiveness.
