RecruitBlock is partnering with a market leading crypto exchange and Web3 wallet developer who provide millions access to crypto trading and dApps through a brand that is also trusted by hundreds of large institutions. They are seeking a dynamic and experienced MLRO Europe who will be responsible for leading and building out a growing team and enhancing key aspects of the financial crime compliance program, based from their MiCA hub in Malta.

This role will be fully office based in Malta.

🧩 How will you spend your time at work?

· Lead the Europe financial crime compliance team providing strategic direction, training and advisory support to our business partners / stakeholders with regards to compliance, in a constantly evolving regulatory environment.

· Develop and maintain robust financial crime compliance policies, procedures, controls and frameworks.

· Engage cross-functionally to implement an effective financial crime compliance program, in line with the global standards (e.g. FATF) and industry best practices.

· Monitor and assess compliance with Malta / EU laws, regulations and policies, particularly as they pertain to financial crime compliance.

· Oversee annual, periodic and on-demand compliance reviews and investigations, including but not limited to financial crime compliance monitoring programme reviews, annual policy updates / refreshes, and compliance risk assessments.

· Participate in Board committee and sub-committee meetings, whether as a member or on an as-needed basis.

· Conduct and oversee company training schedule.

· Act as first port of call for business team members in financial crime compliance issues and advise accordingly.

· Prepare financial crime compliance reports, including reports to management and the board, and other materials as required by direct and matrix stakeholders

· Oversee financial crime compliance reviews and investigations

⭐ Here’s what you’ll bring to this MLRO Europe role;

· Extensive experience in financial crime compliance within financial services, payments companies, fintech or cryptocurrency sectors.

· Several years experience of leading and overseeing an effective financial crime compliance management program in line with Malta / EU standards, and an awareness of local and international industry best practices.

· Strong leadership experience, including dealing with senior business stakeholders.

· Previously been an MLRO and / or DMLRO and held within the EU a regulated compliance approved person position in a banking, payments, or crypto firm, or otherwise able to demonstrate sufficient experience in senior compliance roles, with corresponding responsibilities to those specified above.       

· Working knowledge and experience of developing financial crime compliance policies to ensure compliance with EU financial regulations e.g. EU Fifth Money Laundering Directives.

· Proven ability to work within and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Self-motivated, critical thinker and adept at working independently and in a dispersed team environment covering multiple and varied tasks.

· Intuitive, highly ethical and comfortable to question and challenge.

· Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

· EU passport holder.

· Willingness to relocate to Malta if not already based in Malta.
