Chief Compliance Officer

RecruitBlock is partnering with a crypto intelligence platform that has experienced rapid growth over the last 18 months. This start-up has completed its Seed and Series A fundraising and has an exciting roadmap for further growth. It is now seeking a Chief Compliance Officer who will lead and have responsibility for building out the compliance structures and team from the ground up, ensuring it is built to regulator-ready standards.

As the Group’s first internal compliance hire you will blend the hands-on ability to ‘do’ with strategic skills and insights you’ve gained from previously working in regulated Crypto, FinTech or Banking in the US, UK or EU.

This role offers the opportunity to use your strong technical compliance experience, ability to handle complex matters and motivation to build from scratch, whilst working within a tight knit, growing crypto native team.

This role will be Tri-State (CT, NY, NJ) or Punta Cana, Dominican Republic based

How will you spend your time?

·     Build and maintain robust compliance policies, procedures, controls, systems and frameworks.

·     Establish and maintain appropriate risk-based monitoring and testing plans and processes that are proportionate to the scale, nature and complexity of the business’s operations.

·     Engage cross-functionally to implement an effective compliance management program in line with the global standards and industry best practices that is right-sized for the business.

·     Act as first point of contact for business team members in compliance issues and advise accordingly.

·     Proactively analyse compliance and regulatory risks and requirements associated with all current and future business products and services, make relevant recommendations and implement effective mitigations.

·     Monitor and assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.

·     Conduct and oversee company compliance training.

·     Build-out, coach and mentor a team in line with business requirements.

·     Identify where required appropriate third-party software, tools, and outsourced roles that are needed to build effective and timely compliance, KYC, AML and CTF controls and manage relationships with external providers.

·     Build appropriate procedures for periodic reviews and investigations, policy updates/refreshes and risk assessment updates.

·     Build effective reporting structures and performance/KPI reports to be shared with key stakeholders.

 What will you bring?

·     Strong proven experience in a senior compliance position (CCOM Deputy CCO, VP, Head of) within regulated Crypto, or alternatively the Brokerage, Banking or e-Money sectors.

·     Drive and ambition to be integral member of a fast-moving start-up.

·     Previous experience as a regulator-approved compliance officer/MLRO in the US.

·     Knowledge of and passion for crypto, as well as the relevant risks, preferably through previous companies/roles.

·     Working knowledge and experience of developing compliance policies, procedures, controls, systems and frameworks in line with industry best practice and global standards such as FATF, JMLSG, GDPR, DPA and other relevant AML/CFT/CPF and sanctions regulations.

·     Self-motivated, critical thinker, able to work independently whilst maintaining a focus on outputs, delivery and excellence.

·     Intuitive, highly ethical and comfortable questioning and challenging.

·     Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

·     Right to work in the US.
