We’re hiring an experienced, proactive, and results-driven Head of Financial Crime Prevention & MLRO to lead and manage the company’s financial crime prevention efforts. Reporting directly to the Compliance Director, this role will involve overseeing the development of financial crime systems, policies, and processes, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements. As the Regulated individual, the successful candidate will be subject to approval by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) to act as the Bank’s MLRO.

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Financial Crime Prevention & MLRO

Regulated Individual: Subject to approval by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) to act as the Bank’s MLRO. Lead and manage the Financial Crime Prevention team, ensuring that the department adheres to regulatory and internal SLAs and delivers high-quality service. Develop, implement, and manage financial crime systems, policies, and procedures in accordance with Gibraltar’s financial crime regulations and international compliance standards. Oversee the AML, CFT, and PF frameworks, ensuring full compliance with regulatory obligations in Gibraltar and beyond. Manage and optimise transaction monitoring systems, ensuring rule sets and thresholds are calibrated to detect suspicious activities. Draft and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and work closely with other departments to mitigate risks associated with fraud and financial crime. Ensure compliance with the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) regulations and act as a subject matter expert for the business on all matters related to financial crime and regulatory compliance. Provide senior management with regular reports on financial crime risks and assist in ensuring that appropriate controls and systems are in place. Conduct risk analysis and assess the compliance of new products, services, and jurisdictions. Develop and maintain comprehensive procedures and records for the Financial Crime Prevention department to ensure adherence to business and regulatory requirements. Support ongoing training and development of the Financial Crime Prevention team to maintain high standards of compliance.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

8+ years of experience in financial crime prevention, preferably within a regulated financial services environment. Deep understanding of Gibraltar’s AML, CFT, and PF regulations as well as the financial crime prevention framework in the UK and EEA. Regulated individual under Gibraltar’s financial services laws, subject to GFSC approval to act as the MLRO for the company. Previous experience managing a financial crime prevention team in a licensed banking or payments environment. Strong understanding of Gibraltar’s regulatory landscape and compliance requirements, with experience liaising with the GFSC and other regulatory bodies. Proficiency in AML and fraud detection systems, and skilled in analysing data and reports to drive decision-making. Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor, manage, and motivate a team in a fast-paced, regulated environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with senior management and stakeholders on compliance and financial crime matters. Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to work independently to meet deadlines and drive team performance. High attention to detail and the ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
