VP AML & Financial Crimes

RecruitBlock is partnering with a crypto intelligence platform that has seen rapid growth. With Seed and Series A fundraising rounds completed and nearly 2m subscribers this company has an exciting growth plan. It’s now looking for a VP/AVP AML & Financial Crimes to develop and execute its Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and financial crime strategy.

The VP/AVP AML & Financial Crimes will work closely with the Chief Compliance Officer and will be responsible for overseeing the AML/Financial Crimes team, ensuring that the business’s compliance framework is robust and meets global regulatory requirements. This includes managing investigations, deploying cutting-edge blockchain analytical tools for Know Your Transaction (KYT) monitoring and reporting as needed.

This role will be New York tristate (NY, NJ, CT) based starting WFH but transitioning to hybrid at a future point in time.

🧩 How will you spend your time at work?

· Collaborate with the CCO to design and implement AML and financial crime strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and best practices.

· Lead the development of AML and financial crime policies, procedures, and risk frameworks tailored to the unique challenges of the crypto industry.

· Oversee the day-to-day management of the AML/Financial Crimes team, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with internal and external requirements.

· Develop and use advanced blockchain analytical tools to monitor and investigate suspicious activities related to money laundering, fraud, and other financial crimes.

· Lead efforts to enhance Know Your Transaction (KYT) capabilities, leveraging blockchain data to detect patterns of illicit activity.

· Conduct high-level investigations into complex financial crime schemes, providing actionable insights and recommendations for mitigating risk.

· Oversee transaction monitoring processes to ensure timely identification of risks and red flags.

· Implement best practices for transaction monitoring (TM) and ensure the integration of sophisticated compliance tools into business operation.

· Manage escalations of potential financial crimes and ensure proper reporting to regulatory authorities as needed.

· Help develop a comprehensive risk assessment framework to mitigate financial crime risks across all customer segments and business operations.

· Manage and mentor the AML/Financial Crimes team, ensuring consistent execution of compliance policies and fostering a culture of vigilance and accountability.

· Collaborate with the legal, risk, product and engineering teams to ensure compliance measures are embedded into core operations and decision-making processes.

· Act as a liaison with regulators, law enforcement and auditors to ensure business remains compliant with all relevant laws and regulations.

· Oversee regulatory reporting, ensuring that all required reports are submitted accurately and promptly.

· Ensure compliance policies evolve in response to changes in global AML, KYT, and financial crime regulations.

· Provide ongoing training to staff on AML and financial crime prevention practices, including the use of blockchain analytical tools for KYT and risk management.

· Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that AML and financial crime prevention practices are state-of-the-art and adaptable to the rapidly changing crypto landscape.

 

⭐ Here’s what you’ll bring to this AML & Financial Crimes role in New York;

· Proven track record in leading AML and financial crime programs within the crypto, fintech, or financial services industry.

· Expertise in developing and using blockchain analytical tools to monitor transactions and conduct financial crime investigations (KYT).

. Deep understanding of global AML regulations and compliance requirements, particularly as they relate to cryptocurrencies and digital assets

· Strong leadership experience, with the ability to manage and mentor a compliance team while collaborating across multiple business functions

· Excellent analytical and risk management skills, with a focus on identifying, mitigating, and reporting financial crime risks.

· Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, able to engage with regulators, senior leadership, and cross-functional teams.

· Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment with shifting priorities and regulatory demands.

· Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on process improvement.
