Legal Counsel

Location: Europe

Working model: Hybrid /Remote

The Business

RecruitBlock is partnered with a high-growth financial technology company to appoint a Legal Counsel.

The business is building institutional infrastructure for faster and more efficient cross-border payments. Its platform operates across payments, foreign exchange, digital assets and financial technology, helping institutions move money internationally with greater speed and less reliance on traditional banking systems.

The company is entering an important stage of international growth and is continuing to expand its products, partnerships and regulatory footprint across multiple markets.

The Search

The business is seeking a commercially minded lawyer who can act as a strategic adviser across its products, partnerships and international operations.

The role sits at the intersection of cross-border payments, foreign exchange, digital assets and technology. It requires someone who can interpret complex and evolving legal requirements, provide clear and practical guidance and help the organisation grow while managing legal and regulatory risk appropriately.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and teams across product, engineering, compliance and business development.

The Appointment

The Legal Counsel will advise on the design, development and launch of financial products, with a particular focus on payments, banking infrastructure, foreign exchange and digital assets.

The appointment will support licensing and market-entry strategies across multiple jurisdictions, oversee regulatory applications and coordinate specialist external counsel where local expertise is required.

The role will also provide broad exposure to corporate and commercial matters, including governance, employment, privacy, intellectual property, fundraising and strategic transactions.

This is a senior, hands-on position for a lawyer who is comfortable operating in an evolving environment, making sound decisions with imperfect information and translating legal complexity into clear commercial action.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of scalable legal processes and frameworks while acting as a trusted partner to leadership and cross-functional teams.

Cross-Functional Partnership

·  Act as a trusted legal partner to leadership, product, engineering, compliance and growth teams.

·  Provide clear, decisive and business-oriented legal advice.

·  Manage external counsel and consultants to ensure high-quality and cost-effective support.

·  Build legal processes and frameworks that can scale with the organisation.

·  Contribute to the continued development of the legal function.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will bring:

·  Qualification as a lawyer and current membership in good standing with an appropriate professional or regulatory body.

·  Significant demonstrable experience gained within a financial institution, FinTech or Digital Asset company.

·  Strong knowledge of financial services, payments or money transmission regulation.

·  Experience advising on financial products, commercial partnerships or regulatory matters.

·  The ability to provide pragmatic legal advice that balances risk management with commercial objectives.

·  Experience working closely with product, engineering, compliance and business teams.

·  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·  Excellent written and verbal communication.

·  Sound judgement and the confidence to make decisions where the available information may be incomplete.

·  The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver effectively in a fast-moving environment.

·  A collaborative approach and the ability to operate as a trusted adviser across the business.

Additional experience that would be valuable includes:

·  Digital assets, cryptocurrency, stablecoins or blockchain-enabled payments.

·  BaaS or embedded financial infrastructure.

·  International regulatory regimes and cross-border transactions.

·  Regulatory licensing and market-entry projects.

·  Experience within a startup or high-growth technology company.

·  Building or developing legal processes within a scaling organisation.

What’s on Offer
