The Opportunity
RecruitBlock is partnering with a high-growth fintech and payments platform operating at the intersection of fiat banking and digital assets, to appoint a Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in Gibraltar.
This is a senior, regulator-facing role with full ownership of the firm’s Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) framework, covering AML, CTF, sanctions, and transaction monitoring across both e-money and DLT-regulated entities.
You will play a critical role in ensuring the business remains fully compliant, inspection-ready, and scalable, while acting as the primary interface with the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) and law enforcement.
Company Overview
Our client is building a next-generation B2B payments platform, combining traditional fiat rails (IBANs, payments, corporate accounts) with stablecoin and blockchain-based infrastructure.
Operating at the convergence of payments, fintech, and digital assets, the business enables corporate clients to move funds seamlessly across borders, bridging the gap between traditional finance and crypto-native systems.
Role Overview
As MLRO (Gibraltar), you will take end-to-end ownership of the company’s financial crime compliance framework, acting as the designated AML/CFT/CPF Responsible Person for its regulated entities.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining:
· Regulatory engagement and reporting
· AML framework ownership
· Transaction monitoring oversight
· Internal governance and training
You will operate as a key control function, working closely with the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and wider leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
MLRO & Regulatory Ownership
· Act as the designated MLRO and AML/CFT/CPF Responsible Person for Gibraltar-based entities (E-money and DLT)
· Lead all regulatory engagement with the GFSC, including reporting, inspections, and remediation
· Act as the central contact for law enforcement agencies, including SAR handling under the Proceeds of Crime Act
Financial Crime Compliance Framework
· Own and continuously enhance the firm’s AML/CTF/CPF framework, policies, and procedures
· Maintain and update the firm-wide FCC risk assessment
· Ensure alignment with:

UK AML frameworks
FATF standards
Transaction Monitoring & Risk Oversight
· Oversee and enhance the transaction monitoring programme, including crypto-related activity
· Review high-risk alerts and suspicious activity, providing escalation and recommendations
· Manage and optimise FCC tools (e.g. screening, monitoring, risk scoring systems)
· Conduct periodic client reviews, assessing structures, fund flows, and risk profiles
Client Onboarding & Due Diligence
· Review and approve CDD / EDD documentation for new and existing clients
· Provide oversight on onboarding processes across crypto, payments, and regulated clients
· Ensure a robust, risk-based approach to client acceptance and ongoing monitoring
Regulatory Reporting & Audits
· Prepare and submit:

Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
Regulatory reports
Risk assessments
Compliance testing and review outputs
· Lead internal and external AML audits, ensuring documentation is accurate and inspection-ready
· Ensure timely completion of all regulatory obligations
Governance, Training & Continuous Improvement
· Conduct independent testing of AML controls, identifying gaps and implementing remediation plans
· Lead FCC training programmes, raising awareness across the business
· Support regulatory horizon scanning and advise on emerging risks and requirements
· Mentor and develop junior compliance staff

Skills & Experience Required
Essential
· Extensive experience in financial crime compliance (AML / CTF / CPF)
· Previous experience as MLRO, Deputy MLRO, or senior FCC professional
· Strong background in payments, fintech, e-money, or cryptoasset sectors
· Deep understanding of Gibraltar, UK, EU, and global AML frameworks
· Experience with transaction monitoring and FCC systems (e.g. Chainalysis, World-Check, ComplyAdvantage, etc.)
· Strong analytical, investigative, and risk assessment skills
· Excellent communication skills, including regulatory and board-level reporting
Desirable
· ACAMS, CFE, or relevant legal qualification
· Experience working within VASP or DLT-regulated environments
· Familiarity with crypto transaction monitoring tools (e.g. Chainalysis, Elliptic)
· Experience in high-growth or fast-paced fintech environments
