RecruitBlock is supporting a Gibraltar-based professional services organisation in the appointment of an IT Consultant for an initial six-month fixed-term contract.
This is a senior, hands-on technology review and improvement assignment. The successful candidate will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the organisation’s IT function, including infrastructure, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity, governance, operational processes, disaster recovery arrangements, supplier relationships and team effectiveness.
Working closely with business leadership, the IT Director and support team, the successful individual will identify operational, security and governance risks, implement practical improvements and help establish a more resilient, effective and well-managed technology environment.
The role requires a combination of strategic thinking and hands-on technical delivery and would suit an experienced IT consultant, IT manager, technology transformation specialist or interim technology leader with a proven track record of reviewing and strengthening internal IT functions.
The Organisation
Our client is a Gibraltar-based professional services organisation supporting an international client base within a regulated environment.
As part of its continued operational development, the business is seeking an experienced technology professional capable of independently reviewing the current IT landscape and delivering measurable improvements across systems, infrastructure, governance, security and operational effectiveness.
The Appointment
The successful candidate will conduct a full review of the existing technology environment before delivering practical improvements aligned with business requirements and recognised industry best practice.
This includes responsibility for assessing infrastructure, applications, Microsoft 365, IT support operations, cybersecurity controls, governance frameworks, disaster recovery capability, documentation standards, supplier relationships and team effectiveness.
A key objective of the engagement is to strengthen operational resilience, improve governance and security controls, enhance service delivery and provide leadership with a clear roadmap for future improvement.
Scope of Responsibility
IT Review & Assessment
Conduct a comprehensive review of the current technology environment, including:
· Infrastructure and network architecture
· Systems and business applications
· Microsoft 365 environment
· IT support operations and service delivery
· Cybersecurity controls and operational security
· User access management and permissions
· Technical and operational documentation
· Vendor and supplier relationships
· IT policies, procedures and standards
· Backup arrangements and recovery capability
· Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity preparedness
Key responsibilities include:
· Identifying operational inefficiencies, risks and control weaknesses
· Assessing areas requiring immediate remediation
· Producing detailed findings reports with prioritised recommendations
· Developing practical action plans and implementation roadmaps
Governance, Risk & Compliance
· Review existing IT policies, procedures, standards and governance documentation
· Identify gaps, weaknesses and areas requiring enhancement
· Develop and implement practical governance frameworks aligned with business needs and industry best practice
· Create and strengthen operational documentation and control processes
· Improve Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) arrangements
· Support stronger compliance, accountability and operational discipline across the business
Operational Improvement
· Improve IT systems, processes and working practices
· Enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness
· Review ticket management and escalation procedures
· Strengthen user support standards and service management processes
· Improve IT asset management and operational controls
· Implement improvements to cybersecurity processes and documentation
Strategic Recommendations & Technical Oversight
· Assess the suitability of current technologies, suppliers and support models
· Review infrastructure, cloud services, licensing arrangements and security controls
· Provide commercially focused recommendations to improve operational performance
· Support business leadership with technology decision-making and prioritisation
· Develop practical recommendations for future technology investment and improvement
Team Support & Leadership
· Work closely with the IT Director and IT Support team
· Improve team effectiveness, accountability and ways of working
· Help define roles, responsibilities and performance expectations
· Provide mentoring, guidance and leadership support where required
· Support the development of sustainable operational standards and best practice
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a credible technology professional with significant experience reviewing, improving and supporting enterprise IT environments.
They will possess strong technical expertise combined with excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on delivery.
Core Requirements
· Proven experience within senior IT consultancy, IT transformation, IT management or technology leadership roles
· Demonstrable experience reviewing and improving internal IT functions, processes and operating models
· Strong hands-on experience across infrastructure, networking, Microsoft 365 administration, cybersecurity and IT operations
· Expert knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including architecture, configuration, governance, security controls and tenant management
· Experience assessing and improving IT support functions, service delivery processes and operational effectiveness
· VProven ability to identify operational, security and compliance risks and implement practical remediation plans
· Experience developing IT policies, procedures, standards and governance frameworks
· Strong understanding of Business Continuity Planning (BCP), Disaster Recovery (DR) and operational resilience
· Experience managing technology suppliers, vendors and third-party service providers
· Experience managing, mentoring or supporting small IT teams
· Ability to operate effectively with both executive stakeholders and technical teams
· Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills

Compensation & Contract Structure
